Voronoi tessellation, graded membership and typicality

The relation between graded membership and typicality is an important topic in the study of concepts and categorization. In this lecture, we start from a conceptual spaces approach in which concepts are constructed by means of prototypes and Voronoi tessellation. Following Douven et al., we allow these concepts to have thick boundaries. We elaborate mathematical constructions for graded membership and typicality functions. We demonstrate that by means of these functions some anomalies with regard to typicality and comparatives can be avoided. We compare these results with more traditional findings.
